Hattori-san is a computer programmer by trade, but he purchased abandoned tea fields in Higashiyoshino, Nara, and started a passion project, hand-harvesting the Yabukita tea plants on the property and processing them entirely by himself. Between the tiny size of his operation and the cost of producing the unique styles of tea he's drawn towards, Hattori-san was unsure of the sustainability of his venture. After tasting his teas for the first time in early 2025, we were moved to visit him to figure out how we could support his vision.
